Another focus of the 2008 year is a full plate of Live events for the players. There have been years that were full of Live events and others that had them few and far between. I will be highlighting many of the Live events each month and we have some great content for everyone to enjoy. The guys on the team really came through on the content and with the 9th anniversary right around the corner expect good things!

Great to hear! I have never seemed to be able to get into most of these events, but I always hear about them. I can understand the improptu ones, but some bigger ones should have some prior anoucement so players get a chace to go. I think the biggest event I was in was the Best of the Best. I didn’t get that far, (I think just round 2 for Cleric) but I had a blast. More of these!

I have been gone for too long. But would live events be like where you had the werewolves running around during Halloween? I didn’t see much for Valentine’s Day but I was in the newbie cave most of that time. If so yes please bring them back. I remember when you tested out for about 2 weeks where you could be a random mob like snake, rat, gnoll, or such.

I would love to see them bring back ToT or BoTb

Live events are a great part of the game. They are proof that the game *IS* dynamic, and not just a collection of zones that have mobs that spawn in set places that wait for players to come and kill them or NPCs that respond according to the quests they are involved in.
I actually wasn’t around for the Launch Event for SoF and I have been watching YouTube for someone who may have posted a video of it… because I’m sure it was quite a sight to see.
Of course, nothing compares to seeing it first hand and being able to interact with it and the confusion that goes with something out of the ordinary happening. But from what I hear about the SoF Launch was that it is something that EQ has done that separates itself from other games. I’d even be willing to bet if videos of some of these events were put onto a website it would draw more players in (or back) to EQ.
How hard would it be to run through the script for past events and capture them to a video? At the very least, I wouldn’t think it would be difficult to capture future events. I would think this would have to happen from someone at SOE, since I doubt anyone that would happen to be in Steamfont when things started happening would have fraps installed and running, and even then, they probably would have missed some really cool parts.
The Two Launch Trailers on the website aren’t bad, but they are mostly showing off new content. But then again, maybe I’m just more interested in the Lore and Story in EQ then most.

Sounds very promising, hopefully these take a form the majority of the player-base can take part in.
I enjoyed the “war” for the retaking of grobb immensely & hopefully future events can be done on this kind of scale.
The 12 month schedule should allow for a decent amount of this kind of activity, these kinds of events become an important part of eq history.

I have attended a few GM events. Most all of them have been disappointing, to be honest.
Long time players, like myself, never participate in the “create a Level 1 toon” events because it would mean deleting an alt to do so.
Other events just don’t seem worth while, as the event either seemed disorganized, a cluster and/or the end reward was very much not worth the time and effort.
I recall in older days when certain zones had “activated” content that was, in fact, a bit fun.
Example… recall when places like EK, West Commons and others had halloween events that were self-running once activated? Meaning the MOB’s and special named became the zone spawns? That was cool.
Or when Befallen was over run with Dark Elves?
Perhaps some more special-activated zone events for various times of the year.
Special raid events in insatnced zones would be cool as well. The instanced zone would remove the cluster-effect and winning the event would give the group or raid spcial and rare items to roll on, relative to the event level.
Other events would be more worthwhile if the reward was.. how should I say… by request?
The request would not include epic or progression items, per se… but could include rare or no-longer-in-game items.
Example… I would love to have a Can O’Whoop Ass just for fun. Or I may ask for a fresh stack of Bristlebane’s Challenge, since it is so hard to make (beacuse of the rare ingredients). Or I may request a special title or suffix.
Wehn it comes to “quest” type events, I can see a time limit as the GM(s) obviously can’t stay on line forever, but it would be cool if the quest was accomplishable in a reasonable time span, solo and everyeone could pursue it (rather than compete for the single reward).

I would appreciate a list or announcement of live events. I am actually one player who doesnt enjoy being in the same zone as a live event and so some advance notice to help me avoid it would be appreciated.

The firiona war and the fight for grobb were really great events. Things that really don’t interest me and we get far too often are the PVP, riddle_master_01 and the occasional guide who likes to cyb0rz. The scripted mob events are a nice distraction but handing out a rubicite staff for 45min work leaves me wondering why I bothered.

Live events can be wonderful … even the Halfling Dive Team has its merit.
But Done you think it is time to gear some event to promote some of the other aspect of the game, and find some ways to use the game events to the advantage of the game itself …
The whole deal is to create interest … run a good event … and put out some decent rewards.
That is what the players want, right?
CREATE INTEREST
Use it to the games advantage, start using the Town Criers in the home zone to carry announcement on upcoming event to pull some of these people back to their roots, because they don’t want to miss out on the things happening in Norrath.
A GOOD EVENT
Why do the Halfling Diving Team, FV Fishing Tournament and the Commonlands Werewolf events stick out in ones mind? Because all involved were just that, involved. If you generate the interest in the event … keep em interested with the content!!
REWARDS
There have been some cool rewards … and some not so cool rewards. Rewards don’t have to be spectacular, but they do have to be special. What happen to the the Dive Team tittle … used to make the toon worth keeping. A random Gem for answering a question/riddle in PoK is lame. An AA for ridding the Nek Forest of invading Drachnids is very cool. Some of the stuff dropped off Werewolves in West Commons in 2002 was cool for that day and age … but you have to make the reward of the event interesting!!
All in all GM and server wide events are cool if you guys make em cool I hope to participate in some cool stuff …
Here is an offbeat idea:
Tradeskill Event … load the cultural vendor with a recipe note and items for the recipe at no charge … toons use this to skill up … and handing in the final product gets you something cool along the lines of that skill (ie. baking-cool stat food, brewing-cool stat drink, tailoring-a halfling toe-hair hat that would put the othmir cap to shame … you get the picture)
